Harvest, Balance, Release: the Autumn Equinox Transition

I had the joy of co-hosting a very special workshop at the Mimi Rieger Yoga Studio: Autumn Equinox Yin Yoga & Sound Healing. Together with Anna Kuperstein, we gathered in community to honor this powerful seasonal shift with yin yoga, sound and reflection. The autumn equinox marks the transition from summer’s fiery, expansive energy into fall’s quieter, grounding rhythm.
After months of sunshine, activity, and “go-go-go” energy, this is the time of year when we’re invited to pause. Personally, I feel that shift when I trade my sun-soaked afternoons for cozy nights under a heated blanket (just me?! ). This change in seasons reminds us of the importance of slowing down, turning inward and releasing what no longer serves us.

Just as trees shed their leaves, we too can let go—whether it’s energy we’ve absorbed from others, lingering negativity, or the weight of our own expectations. This process of release creates the spaciousness we need to nurture balance and prepare for what’s ahead. During our workshop, we moved through a series of yin postures, supported by the soothing vibrations of crystal bowls. This practice allowed the body to soften and the mind to settle, creating the perfect container for reflection. We then closed with journaling prompts to help guide us through this seasonal transition.
I’d love for you to take a few quiet moments for yourself and reflect on these same questions we shared:

Journaling Prompts for the Autumn Equinox
Harvest: The Autumn Equinox was traditionally a time to celebrate the final harvest.
What have you brought to fruition this year?
What abundance are you experiencing now because of your efforts?
Balance: This is one of only two days each year when day and night are equal.
Where in your life do you feel balanced?
Where do you feel out of balance?
And what’s one simple action you can take before the year ends to restore more balance?
Release: As we move toward winter, nature reminds us it’s time to shed what we don’t need.
What are you ready to let go of to create space for new growth in the spring?
I’m deeply grateful for this yoga community—for the way you continue to show up, do this important inner work, and hold space not just for yourselves but for each other.
Together, we’re shaping ourselves into softer yet stronger, more grounded humans. So here’s to blankets, balance and the beauty of letting go as we step into this new season.
